It’s like an alternate scene from Mara Clara, as Judy Ann Santos and Gladys Reyes come face-to-face at the media conference of the 2024 Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) on Friday, December 6.

Santos and Reyes played the eponymous Mara and Clara, respectively, who were switched at birth in the original TV series that ran from 1992 to 1997, propelling them to stardom. While the drama series portrayed the two as mortal enemies, the actresses remained good friends behind the scenes even after the show came to a close.

A remake of the series was aired in 2010 with Kathryn Bernardo and Julia Montes taking on the lead roles.

The MMFF event on Friday, however, brought the two stars to reunite once more, as seen on the film fest’s Facebook page.

“OG Mara at Clara reunited sa #MMFF50 (The original Mara and Clara were reunited at the 50th MMFF)! Two of the country’s most iconic actresses Miss Gladys Reyes and Miss Judy Ann Santos muling nagkasama kahapon sa #MMFF50GrandMediaFanCon event,” the post read.

Reyes also posted about their reunion on her Instagram page, while showing a photo and clip of herself hugging her Santos

“Sweet reunion of Mara and Clara at the MMFF Mediacon. Sana po kasama sa listahan ng una nyong panonoorin ang ‘And The Breadwinner Is’ at ‘Espantaho,’” she captioned one of her posts

Meanwhile, Santos shared glimpses of her reunion with Reyes, and other celebrity friends such as Mylene Dizon, Dennis Trillo, and Sylvia Sanchez on her Facebook page.

On the other hand, Santos is the lead star of the horror film “Espantaho” where she’s joined by Lorna Tolentino and Chanda Romero. The supernatural movie is directed by Chito S. Roño.

Meanwhile, Reyes is part of the cast of the Jun Robles Lana-helmed MMFF 2024 entry “And The Breadwinner Is…” which also stars Vice Ganda, Eugene Domingo, Jhong Hilario, Maris Racal, Anthony Jennings, and Kokoy de Jesus.
